verplank's ace all in vain for states
Scott Verplank - matched Casey's feat.
Scott Verplank achieved the first hole-in-one by an American at the Ryder Cup on Sunday - as Europe celebrated victory. Tom Lehman's side had already been sent to a third successive defeat when Verplank aced the 213-yard 14th, the hole where 24 hours earlier Paul Casey had done the same thing. It was the sixth hole-in-one in the contest. The others had come from Peter Buter, Nick Faldo, Costantino Rocca and Howard Clark. The shot took Verplank four-up with four to play on Padraig Harrington.
