verplank wanted more action
Verplank - just one outing so far.

Cracks started to appear in the American team's united front on Saturday after Scott Verplank was unceremoniously dropped from the fourballs. Verplank was one of USA captain Tom Lehman's wild cards and although he and Zach Johnson recorded a 2&1 win over Henrik Stenson and Padraig Harrington - their only full point of the session - he was left out in the afternoon. Europe lead 10-6 heading into the final singles and only four points are required for them to retain the trophy. The 42-year-old Texan was omitted completely on day one but fully expected to play two matches today - and he was not happy to discover he was not. "I'm sitting in here and I sat in here all yesterday," said Verplank when he attended a press conference. "I did win one point today - the only chance I got. I would be lying to you if I told you I wasn't disappointed and feel like I shouldn't have had another point or two. "Tom came up to me on 13 and I guess he told Zach he was playing with so-and-so (Stewart Cink). I said 'Well, am I playing this afternoon?' and he said no. "I said 'We're going to win this match, I'd like to play'. But he already had it set. "If we win the Ryder Cup captain Lehman is going to look pretty much like a genius and that's what I'm hoping. I'm hoping he's a genius."
