Woosnam - praise for Garcia.

A happy Ian Woosnam has decided silence is golden when he is out on the course at the Ryder Cup. With Europe 5-3 ahead of the Americans after a gripping first day in which seven out of eight games went to the final hole at the K Club Woosnam was asked if he had been giving help to his players. "I gave one piece of advice and he ended up on a TV tower!" joked the Welshman. "I thought it better to keep my mouth shut." He was referring to the incident on the seventh, where Padraig Harrington, Jim Furyk, Paul Casey and Stewart Cink had already been in the water short of the green as Swede Robert Karlsson contemplated his second shot. The cup rookie was persuaded to take a club more and a startled cameraman over the green ended up with the ball at his feet. Given a free drop Karlsson chipped to 15 feet, made it to win the hole and went on to halve with Casey against Cink and JJ Henry. Every one of Woosnam's side earned at least half a point, with Sergio Garcia the star of the show - yet again - by partnering Jose Maria Olazabal and then Luke Donald to victories. "Sergio just lifted his game unbelievably, which he always seems to do in the Ryder Cup," commented Woosnam. "He has that Spanish spirit. He is on top form."
