Lee Westwood battled illness to defeat Chris DiMarco by two holes as their match went right down to the last green.

Reportedly running a high temperature, Westwood showed no signs of feeling

under the weather as he birdied five of the first seven holes to storm into a

five-hole lead.

DiMarco hit back with a birdie on the 12th and won the next as well with par,

although by now they knew the match was over due to the results ahead.

A fierce competitor, DiMarco birdied the 16th and 17th as well to keep the match alive but then dumped two shots into the water on the last.

Westwood had hit the green in two and the final action of the Ryder Cup was DiMarco picking up Westwood's ball and shaking hands.
